How to Know If You Are a Christian

Many people profess to be Christians but their actions are far from what you would expect from a Christian. This gives rise to this question- how will you know a Christian? Also, many teachings in the world now make people to wonder if they are really Christians. This article is to answer these questions.
The apostles were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because they were like Jesus Christ. Therefore, to become a Christian you have to be like Jesus Christ, that is, receiving Him as your personal Lord and saviour. There are 2 major ways of knowing if you are a Christian- internal witness and external witness.
Internal witness
When you give your life to Jesus, the Holy Spirit bears you witness within you that you are a child of God, a Christian (Romans 8:16). Though doubtful thoughts may come through your mind, if you listen deep down within, you will perceive the confirmation that you are a Christian.
External witness
Jesus explained in Mathew 7:20 that we can identify children of God by their fruits, by their character, actions and way of life. What are these fruits? Galatians 5:22-23 gives us these traits: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Read more...

The Importance of Prayer-A Must for Christian Believers

Why should a Christian pray? How often should I pray? These questions and many more are constantly heard from people. Some people wonder if there is really any need to pray. This article is to emphasize the importance of praying to a Believer and is listed in no particular order. The reasons a Christian believer must pray
  • A channel of communication
Prayer is a two-way channel by which God and man communicate with each other. Communication is very vital for any relationship that is to pass the test of time. Through prayers Christians relate their minds, feelings, emotions, desires and inadequacies, while God communicates answers, assurance and His supremacy to the believers.
  • Experience the love of God
God is love and through prayers you experience and understand more the love of Jesus. When you pray acceptably you enter into God’s presence where you will be enveloped by God’s love. This assures you of God’s protection over you, insecurity disappears and you receive boldness to face life knowing that Jesus loves you and will always be by your side. David, a man of praise and prayer, experienced this that he wondered in Psalm 8:4, what man is that God is so mindful of him. Also Paul prayed in Ephesians 3:14-19 that the Ephesians should experience this love of Jesus. Read more...

Is the Bible the Word of God

Have you ever wondered if the bible really is the word of God? There are so many religious activities and books out there, all claiming to be the real thing and the word of God to the point that some people are even wondering if God really exists. Truly, where there is a fake, there is a genuine one. This post is to prove to you that the bible is the word of God

Proofs that the Holy Bible is the word of God

1. Preservation (length test)

The books of Moses were written over 3,000 years ago. The book of Revelation (the last book in the New Testament) was written over 1,700 years ago. The first print of the bible was in the 15th century by a German John Gutenburg. He produced the first 300 Gutenburg Bibles in the year 1455 Ad. Certainly God ensured this preservation for this length of period because the bible is His word and He wants generations after generations to have access to His words.

A Christian Attitude Towards Being Offended

“It is impossible that no offences should come...”NKJV. Those were the words of Jesus to His disciples (Christians). Offence will surely come whether we expect it or not, whether we are prepared for it or not! Our attitude towards offence determines the effect it will have on us.

People offend God, fellowmen at one time or another. Some offend intentionally, while some unintentionally. Interestingly, whether you do what is right or wrong, somebody will be offended. The question is “what should be the Christian attitude towards being offended?” To a great extent we can not stop the offences that come our way, but we can control our attitude or response to them. A decision to work towards not being offended is a right step to take if anyone will have a Christian attitude towards offences.

Sometimes, what offends one will not offend another. This shows that we have the capacity to have the right attitude towards offences. Identifying some of the things that cause people to be offended will help one to know how to develop right attitude towards offences. Read more...

2. It is a gift

The grace to give is a gift from God not a wage. God gives it to whoever desires freely. You do not have to work for it to be given to you, just reach out and receive it. Paul calls it unspeakable, indescribable, inexpressible, free gift.

3. It is not a function of how much money one has

Many wealthy people are stingy. They would rather die than give. Yet, a seemingly poor man with the giving grace will still give out of his poverty. The good news is that giving is a covenant practice for prosperity. Give your way to abundance.

This grace does not make you to give what you do not have. It is not for other people to be eased and you burdened! It encourages equality that your abundance may be a supply for their want and their abundance may be a supply also for your want.

6. It is an expression of righteousness

Righteousness manifests itself in active goodness, kindness and charity, and giving is an act of goodness, kindness and charity. Therefore, the giving grace increases your fruits of righteousness.

7. It provokes prayer and thanksgiving unto God

The exceeding grace of God upon you that enabled you to give causes the recipients to pray for you earnestly and to give thanks unto God for enabling you to give to them.
