War In Faith With A Good Conscience

Have you ever exercised faith and your request was not granted? It could be that you have need of patience in order to obtain the promise (Hebrews 10:36). However, it could also be that lack of good conscience on your part deprived you of your desired answered prayers. This post emphasizes the need of a good conscience if your faith is to deliver in prayers.

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck - I Timothy 1:18-19 (NKJV, emphasis mine).

If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear - Psalms 66:18 (NKJV).

Faith works with good conscience. Many Christians' faith do not work because they don't have good conscience. When you reject pure conscience, your faith will suffer shipwreck. The psalmist says that God will not hear him if he habours iniquity in his heart. This is so also for all believers. The Father will not hear you if you have un-confessed sin in your heart. Your heart must be void of offence for your faith to work.

What is good conscience?
Conscience is a moral sense of right or wrong that acts as a guide to the way a person behaves. It is that small still voice that tries to get you to walk in line with the Lord's word, that cautions you when you are going wrong or about to do the wrong thing. Clear conscience then means a conscience void of offence towards God and men (Acts 24:16). The Amplified version of 1 Peter 3:21 calls it an inward cleanness and peace.

A good conscience bears you witness in the Holy Spirit (Romans 9:1). It makes you to seek to conduct yourself morally well with personal integrity and in an honourable way. It is actually commendable if for the sake of maintaining a pure conscience you suffer wrongly (1 Peter 2:19). You are to possess a clear conscience so that when people accuse you wrongly they will be put to shame at the end. Read more...

How To Avoid Being Offended

Imagine your beautiful laid out future being scattered and demolished at the feet of offences. Surely, it’s not a sight you would love to see. One simple un-wisely handled offence can destroy the efforts and hard work of many years, in one day. Many people are victims of the consequences of being offended. This article shows how you can avoid or overcome temptations of offences.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it – 1 Corinthians 10:13

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak – Matthew 26:41

Though you can’t stop offence from coming, you can avoid being offended. When offence comes, the temptation to be offended is usually strong. Offence wants you to be irritated, angry, humiliated, to feel pain or injured. It is your choice whether to let offence have its way or not. Peradventure you get offended, your next action can be disastrous.

How to avoid being offended
·         Expect Offence to come any time
This helps you to be prepared and you won’t be caught unawares.
·         Make a decision never to be offended no matter what the case may be. It will subdue any negative emotion that may want to rise, like pride, anger, etc. Read more...

A Christian Attitude Towards Being Offended

“It is impossible that no offences should come...”NKJV. Those were the words of Jesus to His disciples (Christians). Offence will surely come whether we expect it or not, whether we are prepared for it or not! Our attitude towards offence determines the effect it will have on us.

People offend God, fellowmen at one time or another. Some offend intentionally, while some unintentionally. Interestingly, whether you do what is right or wrong, somebody will be offended. The question is “what should be the Christian attitude towards being offended?” To a great extent we can not stop the offences that come our way, but we can control our attitude or response to them. A decision to work towards not being offended is a right step to take if anyone will have a Christian attitude towards offences.

Sometimes, what offends one will not offend another. This shows that we have the capacity to have the right attitude towards offences. Identifying some of the things that cause people to be offended will help one to know how to develop right attitude towards offences. Read more...
