What To Learn From Joseph A Bible Character (Part 5)

Joseph's brothers go to Egypt

There was also famine in Canaan and Jacob and his children were short of food. When Jacob heard that there was food in Egypt, he sent his sons to go and buy food. However, Benjamin didn't go with them.

Joseph remembers the dreams

When Joseph's brothers came before him they bowed down with their faces on the ground. And Joseph recognized his brothers, though they didn't recognize him. Then Joseph remembered the dreams in which his brothers bowed down to him.

Joseph's brothers called spies

Joseph chose to be rough with his brothers and called them spies; he said that they came to spy on the nakedness of the land. This, his brothers refuted and said they were brothers and honest men. Also, they told him that they were twelve brothers; the youngest was with their father, while one was no more.

Benjamin, to be brought to Egypt

Joseph told them that they would have to bring their youngest brother to verify their words that they were not spies. However, he put them in prison for three days but released them to take food to their families. Nevertheless, he imprisoned Simeon and would only release him when they returned with Benjamin. What To Learn From Joseph A Bible Character (Part 4)

Pharaoh's dreams

After two years of the restoration of the chief butler, Pharaoh had two dreams in one night, one after the other. The first one was that seven good-looking and fat cows came out of a river, followed by seven ugly and gaunt cows. And the seven ugly and gaunt cows ate up the seven good-looking and fat cows, yet never changed in appearance.

And the second dream was that seven thin heads of grain, blighted by east wind ate up seven plump and good heads of grain, and didn't also change in appearance.

In the morning, Pharaoh called all the magicians and wise men to interpret the dreams, but none could interpret them for him.

The chief butler remembers Joseph

When no one could interpret the dreams, the chief butler remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh how Joseph interpreted his dream and the chief baker's dream. And how, everything happened to them according to Joseph's interpretation. Then, Pharaoh sent for Joseph and they made him to look presentable before seeing Pharaoh.

Joseph interprets Pharaoh's dreams

When Pharaoh told Joseph his dreams, Joseph told him that his dreams are the same. And that the seven good-looking cows and grains were seven years of abundance and that the seven ugly and thin cows and grains were seven years of famine. Also, Joseph told Pharaoh, that the famine will be such that nobody will ever remember the seven years of abundance. Read more...

What To Learn From Joseph A Bible Character (Part 3)

And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.” – Genesis 40:8-9

Joseph is put in charge of Pharaoh’s officers

The butler and the baker offended Pharaoh and he put them in the same prison where Joseph was. And the captain of the guard chose Joseph to be in charge of them, and Joseph served them while they were there.

Lessons

  • God will always remember us for the right positions
  • The work of a leader is to serve. This we see in Joseph, though he was in charge of them, he didn’t maltreat them rather he served them while they were there with him

The officers had a dream

One night both the butler and baker had a dream, each one with his own significant dream and its own personal interpretation. When Joseph came to them, he saw that they were sad and depressed. And he asked them why they were not happy and they told him that they both had dreamed but there was no one to interpret them. So, Joseph told them that interpretations belong to God, and they should tell him their dreams. Read more...

How To Set Goals For a Successful New Year

What goals do you have for the year? It is important to set goals now and pursue them if your desire is to smile at the end of the year. I earlier attended a youth congress organized by Living Faith Church, where 'goal setting' as a topic was treated and I want to share the summary with you here. So, this post tells how to set goals for a successful New Year.

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.” Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.” – Jeremiah 1:11-12 (NKJV).

I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart, and watch to see what He will say to me, and what I will answer when I am corrected. Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry – Habakkuk 2:1-3 (NKJV).

Other anchor scriptures include: Gen.13:14, Luke.14:28, Pro.29:18

Introduction

We have a legacy of continuous improvement in redemption (Proverbs 4:18). However, success in the Christian realm is as far as your eyes can make out (Gen 13:14-15); so, staying in front requires you seeing ahead. Also know that the future has a way of announcing itself unexpectedly, as such demands preparation ahead of time to avoid being caught unawares. Though we cannot retrieve yesterday, tomorrow however is yours to decide whether to win or lose. This, therefore, calls for goal setting.

What are goals?

  1. A clear image of your most wanted future.
  2. A clear description of your hope.
  3. A set purpose in definite areas of life.
  4. An unmistakably mapped-out path to run.
