Understanding The Awesome And Powerful Uses Of The Tongue

How well do you know your tongue? Many people don't understand the tongue and so readily fall into its trap. And when you underestimate the capability of the tongue, you will be highly hindered in your pursuit of peace and success.

For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God - James 3:2-6, 8-9 (NKJV).

Introduction

The tongue really is a little member of the body, yet it boasts great things and can set on fire the course of nature. Also, the tongue is such that if you don't stumble in words, you're a perfect person. And you will be able to bridle the whole body. Though very little, the tongue controls the rest of the body. So, understanding the tongue enables you to drive the rest of the body in the right direction.

Who Made The Mouth

God made the mouth and so made the tongue. And He has made the mouth to be an instrument of creation. So that as creatures made in His image, we too can speak and see what we say as He did. And as many persons who will allow Him to be with their mouths, He will teach what to say.

So the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the LORD? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say - Exodus 4:11-12 (NKJV). Read more
